What to wear to a basic canoeing session.......

We understand that many new members will not have the confidence or experience to paddle at a general club session and would prefer to attend one of our club run introductory courses.

These courses are typically 3 sessions X 2 hours duration. Our BCU qualified club coaches will guide you through your fist few hours with us and cover all the skills required to give you the confidence to attend a club session and paddle with others to further develop your sills.

Session 1 - Selection and adjustment of the right boat and equipment for you. We have over 100 different canoes and kayaks for you to choose from. We will show you how to get on and off the water from our pontoons and how to paddle and turn the boat.

Paddlers are encouraged to book and attend the Monday pool session (9-10pm) to practise some of the wet skills in a warm and safe environment.

Session 2 - A recap of the all the skills learned in session 1. You will typically go on a short trip around the Liverpool docks, maybe even to the "wheel of Liverpool" or Albert Dock.

Paddlers are encouraged to book and attend the Monday pool session (9-10pm) to practise some of the wet skills in a warm and safe environment.

Session 3 - Typically this is a fun session where you try a variety of boats to widen your experience. These may include open boats, racing craft, slalom kayaks and canoes, sit on tops, sea kayaks, touring boats.

Most of those who attend these introductory courses complete all the requirements of the BCU / Canoe England 1 Star Award.

One Star
A Flat water award that demonstrates an individual has basic boat control and foundation skills. The one star can be taken in any kind of paddlesport craft (e.g. sit-on-top, slalom C2, polo boat, sea kayak, racing canoe etc.)
