The Mary Lou (written by Matt Smith)
This is basically a flat water loop, but using another boat to
get air borne. It looks very impressive if done correctly and
can be great at scaring beginners in their dancers when you do
it over their deck!
*You need to be in a relatively short boat like an S6, Air or
other short stubby thing. Find a willing volunteer in a big, high
volume boat.
*Come along side the front of their boat, without tipping them
over push yourself upright so that you boat is vertical. Try not
to be too close to their head as you could hurt someone!
*Once vertical and comfortable begin to bounce your boat up and
down. Make sure that you don't bounce yourself away from the other
boat, it will make this harder and more painful!
*Take a big bounce and as the boat is popping up tuck your head
onto the deck of the boat you looping over (a helmet is a top
idea when doing this!), pull your legs over your head and push
off the deck of their boat with your hands. You don't really want
to be taking your hands off the deck until you have landed. Think
of it like a powerful forward flip (like in gymnastics), only
your legs are a kayak!
*If the move has worked you should land with the back of the boat
hitting the water first.
Remember:
*The idea is to rotate your boat over your head, so tuck it out
of the way!
*Keep pushing off the deck of the boat your looping over.
*DON'T hold onto a grab loop because your fingers will get bent
backwards as you go over. And believe me this really hurts!
*Always warm up properly. You can do yourself serious injury if
you haven't. See
it done on video
