The first step to stern squirting is having the right boat and a good place to do it. The long and slicy low volume freestyle boats are the best for stern squirts. The best stern squirt spots will have strong current with a crisp eddy line. Check out the video if you are not sure what a good spot looks like. Also the eddy line must be deep enough so that you do not hit bottom.

Now with the action… To completely master stern squirt you have to remember the famous quote from the movie Happy Gilmore when Chubbs says, IT IS ALL IN THE HIPS, IT IS ALL IN THE HIPS. Like cartwheeling, stern squirts require a lot of hip power to hold the angle of the stern to slice it under and not let the stern lose its angle and flip you over.

Check out the first picture make sure that you approach the eddy line pointing up stream with a 45 degree angle into the current. Have enough speed to cross the line. Let the bow of you boat swing around, but while this is happening set your stern angle and plant that left paddle blade to do a stern pry.

Once that paddle blade is planted try and use your hips to force the stern into the water. Your bow should be rising up now. If you are in a really short boat be ready to fall backwards. To prevent from falling backwards, lean back and use your paddle to brace off the surface of the water.
Trouble Shooting>br> If you seem to flip over up stream every time you hit the eddy line with the left stern pry, picture 2, then focus on keeping the angle of your stern more ridge. Try to slice the stern in a little less than before, just to get a better feel for the full motion of the move.
