2013 Nominations for Paddler of the year
(club member who has either made the most progress or achievement in paddlesport)

Sarah Gille Paul Harwood
Sarah always gives 100 percent and always aims to improve her paddling skills! She is an amazing person to be with on the river with as she always has a huge smile and encourages everyone! She is incredibly enthusiastic even when things don`t quite go to plan!!!   Sarah has had an awesome year both personally with her new look and paddling coming on a storm.  Her whitewater paddling has gone from strength to strength and her whitewater song is well worth a listen. Even though Paul never gets it right he is always promoting Canoeing and Kayaking within the club. Whatever the discipline he continues to use a range of open boats for everyone's entertainment. Open boating, white water, surfing, sea kayaking and mainly swimming - we have all had the pleasure to have paddled with Paul.
2013 Nominations for Young Paddler of the year
(Under 18 club member who has made either the most progress or achievement in paddlesport)
Isobel Papaspyridis Harvey Harwood Bradley Tattum
Isobel has competed in several slaloms over the year.  Her best result so far is 2nd in the under 12 junior division.  She as been a regular member of the junior club on Tuesdays and Saturdays and led the way down Chester Weir on the junior club trip to Chester.  Over the last 12 months the water confidence that Harvey has achieved is amazing. From being scared of being underwater, to now almost living in it is fantastic. He has learned to Eskimo rescue, can almost roll, and regularly comes surfing at Crosby. All this and he's only eight. He paddles a little a Jackson fun, but likes to use a proper blade. Harvey likes to Barbeque on Hilbre Island and has also been on the Lune, the Ribble, the Mersey, and the Dee but his favourite place is Four Mile Bridge in Anglesey. A regular surfer at Crosby and always present on Thursday sessions at the docks. A great help within the club and responsible for collapsing numerous tents at our club camping trips.

Sam Preston  Sam Strachan Jack Gille
Sam doesn't just look cool in his Jackson Fun, he paddles it well, often rolling or performing vertical playboat moves.  You can catch Sam happily trying out his paddling skills; from surf to slalom, & rock hopping in his sea boat (one that's tippy enough to scare most of the grown ups).  He can keep up with those grown ups out on a sea trip too. This nomination is for a young paddler who has developed their skills on all types water over the last 12 months.    Although Sam hasn't had the most paddling time this year he has "smashed" every opportunity that he has had. Surfing, The Dock or Stanley Embankment, he has paddled them all brilliantly.  Jack is an enthusiatic paddler and has improved greatly throughout 2013.  He is a regular attender at Junior club and often paddles an inazone.  He and Sarah managed to roll one of the club plastic yellow doubles - quite a feat.
2013 Nominations for Volunteer of the year
(Club member who has given their services to help the club)
Stuart Toulison Pete Stone Frankie Annan Dave Reynolds Adrian Mould
Stuart has quietly and almost single handedly stepped in to run the extra Kingsway pool session on a Monday (with help from Ben and John Cooke).  This has turned into a year long booking and his enthusiasm and time has given many either their first experience with the club or endless hours of help trying to roll. Pete is passionate about paddling, and is especially keen to get youngsters on the water, so he can train them up for Thursday night Murderball.   He is devasted when he misses a session, Pete really encourages both new members and the less experienced to 'have a go.' He started the Saturday Youth Session a few mobths ago with Richie, and are there every week without fail. Despite having a very busy life outside of kayaking, Frankie has managed to co-ordinate so many paddling and non-paddling events for the club throughout 2013. She's an excellent communicator and is popular with just about everyone. She also makes some cracking cakes which I`m hoping to get a slice of after writing this :-) Dave is one of our most experiened coaches and despite many difficulties dividing his time as a full time carer he has run numberous introductory and improver courses for the club this year.  Dave regularly helps coach at the pool and has set up and run the disabled canoeing session at Halewood. Adrian has been responsible for organising loads of paddling this year; Friday slackers, Trips to Scotland paddles on the River Dee etc.  He is a larger than life character who is always willing to help and encourage those with less experience.
2013 Nominations for Swimmer of the year
(Club member who has had the best out of boat experience)
Ian Bell Darren Bohanna Roy McHale
River Eden: " I know we are all getting out but I will just pop over here to look at the drop".  With that and despite frantic back paddling Ian was sucked over the weir and into the stopper and after a few moments pulled his deck.  His boat was finally recovered by the chasing group that had portaged some distance down stream.  This gained him an automatic nomination for Swimmer of the Year. The Ubaye Race Course: whilst playing in the smallest of holes Darren was dragged in sideways and after a couple of desparate attempts to brace, he made a quick wet-exit to the cheers of all those in the surrounding eddies.  When asked why Chris did not have his GoPro on he replied  "I didnt know he was going to do that!!" The Onde, Grade 3: Full faced Roy gave it his best hero line. With gasps of horror from the massed French crowds and the cries of some small children, Roy struck a glancing blow to one of the small rocks, after what must have been almost 3 seconds, Roy managed to practice his Siberian breaststroke and self-recover his paddle. His boat was picked up and emptied for him by an unknown bystander.
