2021 Nominations for Paddler of the Year
(club member who has either made the most progress or achievement in paddlesport)

Chris Marsden

John Groom

Liz Shelbourne

Chris has been pushing his paddling hard over the past year.  He is a WW addict but also enjoys a variety of paddle craft.  Always enthusiastic and willing to try anything.  He is an inspiration to us all.

John has excelled at his sport and can now been seen at the docks several times a week.  Training for the Hilbre race has seen him lead a second distance paddling group during the week.   He is also a keen, reliable group leader at junior club every week.

Liz is an enthusiastic paddler who enjoys a variety of paddlesport.   She is keen on WW and the sea recently completing the Little Eye race in very creditable time.  Keen to try everything and keen to learn sums up Liz`s key attributes.

David Hendry

Julie Brooks

David joined the club a year ago and has gone from a relative novice to an accomplished open boater, kayaker and Stand Up Paddleboarder in a very short period of time.   He is now leading others at the docks and developing the paddling of all.  He seems to be a natural paddler and shows just what you can achieve if you throw yourself at the club.

Julie has pushed herself in all disciplines since joining the club some years ago.   This year she signed up for a round Anglesey paddling adventure and ended up paddling all the all the way around including all the cliffs, races and overfalls.  Although this journey was with a provider and took place as day paddles over a week, it was nonetheless, a major achievement.

2021 Nominations for Young Paddler of the Year
(Under 18 club member who has made either the most progress or achievement in paddlesport)

Oliver Groom

Poppy Clews

Aaron Cook

Miguel Toft

Ollie has been with the club for only just more than a year and is only 9 years old, but in that time, he has developed into a skilled, confident, dedicated and fearless paddler well beyond his years. He’s mastered both paddle and hand rolls and has been a key participant in the new Junior Polo group and also attends the club's main Polo sessions. Ollie always has a smile on his face and is keen to share his skills. He has trained other Juniors much older than himself in t–rescues and safe capsizes.

Poppy has been a stalwart of the junior club this year attending almost every session.  She has paddled in Scotland on the Alternative Alps trip, takes part in all things canoe polo and recently won the West Kirby Sea Kayak race in her own, blue kayak with teeth!

Aaron has really matured over the last year and while he has paddled on Anglesey at the junior club weekends, he now spends most of his time in a canoe polo kayak.   He is developing into a very competent paddler.

Miguel has been consistently coming to Junior club on a Sunday and for a long time was comfortable in 'his' sea kayak. Over the last few month`s he has really come out of himself, becoming chatty and sociable. He has been happily jumping into the docks, practising capsizing, T-rescues and most recently joining some of the juniors playing and practising Polo skills on a Sunday.

2021 Nominations for Volunteer of the Year

(Club member who has given their services to help the club)

Richard Clews

Sharon Walters

Adya Misra

Richard is an active, enthusiastic volunteer. He restarted Junior Club after lockdown and has relentlessly strived to keep it running smoothly, organising and leading sessions. Richard has introduced many new juniors to the club and works hard to provide fun, relevant sessions to develop the skills of all juniors.

From her introductory course Sharon is now a regular group Leader on the Sunday paddles. However, a lot of her other work goes unseen. Besides being the clubs lead safeguarding officer she also completes the admin and organises all the groups for the Sunday Morning paddles.  Sharon is definitely an asset to the club.

Adya is our SUP representative and has introduced many to a board.  She had also been an ambassador for female paddlesports within the club, often introducing many new specialist sessions to our calendar to encourage and develop paddling for our members.  Her coaching skills are excellent.

Kevin Corcoran

Roger Colman

Martin Sinnott

Kevin’s Paddle Fit sessions have become a regular for the club and I appreciate the consistency he shows, by running these sessions every week and the way he has evolved the session to stretch participants whilst still having some fun.

Roger has been instrumental in bringing together fellow paddlers to assist with sea trips for paddlers wanting to progress from the docks onto the open water. Additionally, supporting fellow paddlers, who wanted to assist on these trips.

Marty Sinnott deserves volunteer of the year for his amazing dedication and commitment to running the Friday morning rolling sessions.   These have allowed many to practise their wet skills, even when the pools have been closed.

John Fay

John is the inland touring representative and has encouraged many to paddle new stretches of our inland waterways.  He runs many docks sessions and encourages many onto the water.  Nothing is ever too much trouble for him.
