2024 Nominations for Paddler of the Year
(club member who has either made the most progress or achievement in paddlesport)

Sue Bradley

Andy Bond

Ella Botzenhardt

Sue is passionate about water sports and is a member of both LCC and Liverpool Open Water Swimming Club. She has been part of the kayak safety crew for several major swims over the last three years including The Great North Swim, Coniston Swim-Run, Windermere One Way and a 'Tough Mudder'. Sue recently swam across the Mersey as part of an organised event.  Sue can quickly establish a rapport with any swimmer in difficulty and provide a calming word of advice and encouragement. With an infectious sense of humour and 'joie de vivre,' Sue is a superb asset to the Club.

Andy has been an active club member since he joined a couple of years ago. He enjoys paddling at the docks and regularly practices various skills, including rolling and self-rescue techniques at the pool.

Andy has participated in numerous club sea kayaking trips, including excursions to Anglesey and the Outer Hebrides. Additionally, he leads a weekly session at the docks, supporting other club members.

Ella joined the club a year ago and since her first introductory session, she has developed her paddling at an exponential rate.  She attends at every opportunity. Distance paddling, improver sessions, white water river paddling, canal paddles, sea kayaking trips and club weekends. She asks all the right questions and has followed an ideal development path, purchasing a roof rack when she was ready and just the other week, her first sea kayak.

Jake Diprose

Tim Haines

Jake has been a crucial part of LCC Polo this year, he always brings “energetic chaos” to each session.

He has encouraged many newcomers into polo and is a friendly face to see at the sessions.

He regularly takes part in Canoe Polo competitions for the club across the country.

I’d like to nominate Tim Haines for Paddler of the Year for continuing to plan and take on some amazing solo paddles to far-off places, St Kilda being the stand-out paddle of the year.  In addition to inspirational sea kayak trips, Tim has run regular distance paddles at the docks and is entering the 125-mile Devizes to Westminster Race at Easter 2025.

2024 Nominations for Young Paddler of the Year
(18 or under club member who has made either the most progress or achievement in paddlesport)

Fraizer Bevan

Clara Clews

Fraizer has been a regular kayaker at Kingsway Leisure Centre since joining the Club in November. He has also attended several sessions with the juniors at the docks. He is building up his skills and confidence on the water and is now very comfortable both on and in the water! He has enthusiastically completed several wet-exits and t-rescues at the docks and hopes to develop more skills, strokes and techniques in the future.

Clara is a dedicated LCC member. She always attends junior club events and she is a regular at the Kingsway pool sessions where she often coaches people many times older than her. This year she developed a solid roll, her record at Kingsway is 300 in one session! Clara enjoyed the Anglesey junior weekend and the Alps where she worked hard to develop her river confidence. She is always happy to chat with anyone and she counts many adult LCC members as good friends as well as juniors!

Noah Lawrenson

Marcus Smith

Noah has really enjoyed the junior pool sessions, concentrating on learning to roll and making edging and sculling look effortless and natural!

He has been to many of the dock’s sessions and junior club trips and is building up his confidence in different environments.

Marcus is a dedicated regular at our junior club pool and docks sessions. This year, he has worked hard to perfect his rolling technique and demonstrates confidence in various environments.

He has enjoyed trips to canals, rivers, and the sea, with a highlight being surfing and practising T-rescues at Leasowe Bay. Marcus’s enthusiasm and commitment to improving his skills make him a valued member of our junior club.

2024 Nominations for Volunteer of the Year

(Club member who has given their services to help the club)

Callum Cook

Kevin Corcoran

Terry Smith

Callum is the LCC Polo coordinator. He runs Polo sessions at least once a week, organises all the club’s tournament entries and teams and works hard to develop the Polo section. He helps run the Kingsway pool sessions each week where he helps new starters develop their paddling skills. Callum is an asset to the club.

We are thrilled to nominate Kevin Corcoran for Volunteer of the Year. His exceptional dedication, leadership, and passion for kayaking have fostered a welcoming environment in the club. Because of Kevin, we drive for 2 hours every Tuesday morning to attend his 'paddle fit' sessions, which significantly impact newcomers and seasoned paddlers. Kevin has taken us from inexperienced paddlers to a standard where we were able to kayak off part of Greenland's east coast as part of a two-week unsupported team. His enthusiastic spirit and skill truly deserve this recognition.

Terry has been leading the Improver Skills Sessions on a Wednesday evening.  His enthusiasm and encouragement are really supportive and his calm approach to teaching means you feel valued as a learner.  He's been excellent at allowing the learner to have a voice and has been such a sport in preparing to get wet to demonstrate rescues.  It's been a joy to learn from Terry.  He also helps run the junior club both at the docks and at Broadgreen.
