Sea Kayak Leader training session 4: Gallows Point to Puffin Island by Ian O’Connor

Participants: Dave and Fiona Gentle, Andy, Christine, Eamon and Ian.

I suppose the story of this trip starts way back in 1980. It was quite a year. The Olympics was controversially held in Moscow (the XXII Olympiad). We sadly and tragically lost two icons of the music industry, John Lennon (aged 40) and Ian Curtis (aged 23). More positively, I turned 15years old and fell in love for the first time. She was an older woman who was my senior by three years. She was also the star of the film of the year –  Gregory’s Girl. No, I am not talking about Dee Hepburn, it was the adorable, yet diminutive (5′ 1″) Clare Grogan. In the film Clare posed the question “Why are boys so obsessed with numbers?” Her love interest in the film, John Gordon Sinclair (6’2″) said “It’s because numbers make the world go around.”
