2025 05 18 Sea Kayak Leader Training
Many thanks for submitting your plans and Risk Assessments. I have thrown in a couple of curveballs as options for Sunday. We can do any and will go with majority votes, or I will decide if a tie. The weather is looking good with 9-12mph NNE winds.
Option 1 – Midday – 6 pm
Prestatyn Sailing Club slipway – take the flood tide East towards Talacre Lighthouse, and then across the Dee Estuary to Hilbre Island. Lunch and return. 25km, but we have the tide both ways. 1.5kts Tide turns at 3 pm, so midday start with a 5 pm finish. Bonus – Never paddled this before, open crossing and Lighthouse!
Option 2 – 9 am to 2 pm
Llandudno Lifeboat station – work the eddies to the Great Orme Lighthouse, Cave and maybe get out on the slab. Return and lunch on a beach – Extension to little Orme and Rhos on Sea – return against the last of the weak Flood. Bonus – Far less carry at low tide as the tide goes out miles at West Shore!
Option 3 – 9 am to 2 pm
Anglesey North Coast – Cemlyn Bay to Porth Eilian – Essentially Andrew`s Plan (Cemaes Bay). One way, so will need a shuttle. Bonus – Less carry at low tide, free parking!
Option 4 – Midday – 4 pm
Skerries Rock – from Church Bay (Porth Swtan)
Take the last 1hour of tide out to the Skerries Rock (overfalls will be dying off), Land and have lunch and return before the tide becomes too strong. Bonus – short trip avoiding usually large overfalls!
