Safeguarding Adults Policy
Policy Statement
Liverpool Canoe Club is fully committed to safeguarding the well-being of its members. All members should show respect and understanding for the rights, safety and welfare of others, and conduct themselves in a way that reflects the principles of the Club.
Liverpool Canoe Club recognises the need to promote the welfare and interests of adults in all circumstances. This policy aims to ensure that inclusive of age, ability or disability, gender reassignment, marriage/civil partnership, pregnancy/maternity, race, religion or belief, sex or sexual orientation ALL adults are able take part in paddlesports safely and are protected from ANY form of bullying, harassment, discrimination and abuse. We acknowledge that adults at risk can be particularly vulnerable to abuse and we will take reasonable and appropriate steps to protect their welfare, ensuring that everyone has a positive, enjoyable experience in our sport in a safe and inclusive environment.
Safeguarding is a collective responsibility. Everybody involved in paddlesports has a duty of care to safeguard and protect adults, both inside and outside our sport.
Policies and procedures relating to safeguarding will be widely promoted. We will respond to any safeguarding concerns effectively, transparently, consistently and fairly. We are committed to ensuring compliance with statutory frameworks, government guidance, codes of conduct and best practise.
We believe that taking part in Paddlesport should be a positive and enjoyable experience, and to achieve this, we have the following aims:
● Club coaches and helpers should follow the Paddle UK Coaches Code(s) of Conduct.
● All Club coaches, helpers and officials should read and adhere to the Paddle UK Safeguarding Adults Policy. The Club will follow the policy guidelines in the event of any concerns or allegations.
● The Club will ensure that anyone who meets the eligibility criteria for a Disclosure check will not be deployed until a satisfactory check has been returned.
● All Club members are made aware of the Club Code(s) of Conduct.
● Any paddler who coaches for the Club should be a *member of Liverpool Canoe Club. The club will encourage and support helpers to gain qualifications and assist coaches to stay updated.
● The Club will identify a Safeguarding Coordinator whose role it is to deal with any issues concerning Safeguarding (Club Welfare Officer) and notify this person to all members. Anyone with concerns about the welfare of a club member or participant should contact one of the Safeguarding Team as soon as practicable. If needed, they can contact the Paddle UK Safeguarding Officer (Tel: 0115 8968842)
● The Club will adopt and regularly review a Health and Safety Policy.
● The Club will review this Safeguarding Policy annually.
