River Dee Open Canoe Trip Report – Corwen to Horseshoe Falls
Section: Corwen to Horseshoe Falls (finishing via the canal to Pavilion car park)

Liverpool Canoe Club enjoyed a classic open canoe trip on the River Dee from Corwen to Horseshoe Falls, paddled at a good, high but fun water level that gave the river plenty of energy without making it overly demanding.
The day was marked by strong winds associated with the stormy weather, but the steep-sided Dee valley provided welcome shelter for much of the journey, allowing the group to paddle comfortably despite the blustery conditions.
From the get-in at Corwen, the group settled into a steady rhythm, practising ferry glides, peel-outs, eddy turns, and boat trimming in lively but manageable flow. The higher level kept things engaging while still offering plenty of opportunities to stop, regroup, and enjoy the scenery.
After reaching Horseshoe Falls, we continued by paddling down the canal to the Pavilion car park, giving a calm and controlled finish to the trip and an easy take-out to round off the day.
A well-run and enjoyable paddle in testing weather, and another reminder of why this stretch of the Dee remains a club favourite.
