2025 Inner Hebrides Sea Kayak Trip – Part 2 Loch Awe

Friday 29th, Loch Awe Day 4 – Innis Chonnell to Roadside Car Park by Andy (Day 14)

This was our last day of paddling. A fairly short stretch of about 7km paddling from the island campsite at Innis Chonnell to the roadside lay-by where we’d launched from a few days earlier.

We’d decided on an early start to reach Inveraray for breakfast and then allow folk to make the journey home that day, rather than make another overnight camp. We struck camp, packed up in gloomy weather, and were on the water at 7 am. Heading SW in heavy drizzle, we followed in Ian’s wake as he set a good pace, homeward bound. The paddling was fairly uneventful, with some shoreline interest and a detour necessitated by an inconveniently sited commercial fish farm. But most of the time, drizzle and mist restricted our views.

By 8:45, we were back at the cars, loaded boats in heavy drizzle turning to rain, then changed and headed homeward via Brambles cafe at Inveraray. This proved to be the perfect place for breakfast and coffee, as we reflected on 2 weeks of excellent paddling and discussed plans for the future.
