2024 12 31 River Eden Lazonby to Armathwaite
The final adventure of 2024 was nothing short of spectacular for our club as we braved the crisp winter air to paddle the picturesque stretch of the River Eden from Lazonby to Armathwaite. This 7-mile journey combined serene beauty, camaraderie, and a hint of challenge at Armathwaite Weir, offering the perfect close to the year.
6 enthusiastic members gathered at Lazonby Bridge under a pale winter sun. There had been some discussion about the water level needed for this trip and the river was a little higher than the day before with the bottom step well covered. The Great Corby Gauge was on 0.79m and provided plenty of water for this section. Rain Chasers had it at low but the River App was well below low and I think a little misleading. After a thorough safety briefing and a quick shuttle, we launched our canoes into the calm yet inviting waters of the mighty Eden.
