Safety Kayakers for the Liverpool Open Water Swim

Coordinator Jim Duffy

Safety Kayakers for the Liverpool Open Water Swim on Saturday, 27th September, from 7.00 am.

Safety kayakers are required for the Liverpool Open Water Ivan Percival Swim in the Salthouse, Wapping and Queen’s Docks. You don’t need any specific lifesaving qualifications to be part of the water safety team, but if you have, so much the better. However, you need to be a confident kayaker.

Payment will be £20.00 to each kayaker to defray expenses.

7.00 am: Meet at the Liverpool Canoe Club compound. Club boats, buoyancy aids and paddles will be available from the LCC compound. Free parking next to the club compound at:

Liverpool Canoe Club, Coburg Wharf, Liverpool L3 4EB

7.15 am: Safety kayakers briefing near the compound.

7.30 am: Paddle to the Salthouse Dock slipway for a safety briefing from Liverpool Open Water Swimming Club at 7.45 am.

The swims will start at the Salthouse Dock at 8.00 am and will be organised by Liverpool Open Water Swimming Club. The experienced open water swimmers will swim 1, 2 and 3-mile distances from the Salthouse Dock to the Grosvenor Casino in the Queen’s Dock on a circuit.

There will be refreshments served on the slipway at the Salthouse Dock after the event, kindly provided by Liverpool Open Water Swimming Club members. The swimming club will pay £20.00 to each kayaker for their services.

I expect these swims will be completed by 10.15 am, and the kayak team may then have a paddle around the docks if people are interested. Alternatively, individuals may leave after the swims are complete.

Please book via the LCC link if you would be interested in helping at this event. If you require individual advice, please contact me.
