Junior Evening Paddle – River of Light

It was getting dark as we met at the docks on Saturday evening. We checked all our headlights were working and there were glow-in-the-dark pumpkin balloons to attach to our boats. It was a calm, dry evening and by the time we were on the water, it was dark.

We paddled down the docks before some limboing in Salthouse Dock. Once Paul’s headlight was recovered we went into the Albert Dock. We headed towards the light installation Illusion Hole. We paddled around it, marvelling at the amount of people visiting the Albert Docks.

Then we headed towards the Positive Spin where we were spotted by some kayaking friends. We paused for chocolate. Attempts to light our sparklers didn’t work while we were bobbing up and down, so we went to Dukes Dock to see the Big Wheel lit up, and practised edging around the Canal and Rivertrust buoy. We headed back to the compound, hearing but not really seeing fireworks with all the clouds. Once back on dry land, the sparklers were lit, to end a fun evening paddle.
