2025 09 22 Open Canoe Progression

We had six boats out on the water with almost ideal conditions. Dave S took us through several practices on boat control, and then as the sun went down, we paddled against the breeze up past the Casino building and into Albert Dock.

As the darkness grew, the magic of the lights lit up the water space, and we drifted and paddled around. This time of year is magic in the docks. The water is still warm, dusk comes, and the light shows are fantastic. I love the smells of the restaurants and cafes, and enjoy the quiet babble of the tourists and diners as we drift silently past.

If you get a chance, join one of the evening paddles during this period of high pressure before the winter nights really draw in. Remember to carry or display a white light in case other water traffic approaches. Simple bike light(s) are great, but some members invest in a head torch for a hands-free experience.
