Sunday Icebreaker Paddle 12th January by Colin Lowndes

We paddled out from Coburg Wharf through clear water, but ice was starting to encroach through Wapping Dock, and it wasn’t even possible to get to the polo area in Dukes Dock.

At Salthouse, techniques were developed for breaking through unbroken ice, and to travel as a safe group in a narrow channel. By the time we reached Albert Dock, our confidence had grown, and we pressed (crashed) on through the half-inch thick ice to clear a channel to Canning Docks.

Our thanks to Jacki for leading a lovely paddle and giving everybody there, a new experience of the docks. 😊
