It is with great sadness that the club has received news of the passing of club member Irene Jackson.
Irene joined LCC with her close friends Bob and Sue Hamilton who after years of diving together decided to take up kayaking. Irene was an independent and lovely lady with a passion and enthusiasm for paddling. Although in her eighties Irene continued to paddle and be an active member of the club and was an inspiration to us all. Irene will be sadly missed.
Our thoughts are with her family and close friends at this sad time.
Further details of Irene’s funeral arrangements will be shared in due course.

As previously noted, our very dear friend of more years than I could really remember has recently passed away. We initially knew her through our joint diving interests.
She was very active in a local diving club and for over 20 years organised the annual expedition to Scapa Flow in the Orkney Isles.
Sue and I were both also very keen motorcyclists, both on and off-road. Irene decided that she would like to try her hand at that and did actually attain a basic qualification, On one of her early training rides she did an unscheduled trip through the Mersey Tunnel, but that is another story.
We all went to Andorra for a week skiing and she did extremely well, but decided that it maybe was not for her.
Around this time came her interest in Kayaking. On an expedition to Orkney, she came with her “Pirouette” kayak and almost drowned me, but that is just another story.
A short time later, and now in a “Capella”, which was far better suited, she paddled the Caledonian Canal with a friend. Sue and I provided B&B from a cruiser for the second stage of this venture. The rest is history, but is how we came to start paddling.
As you will understand, this lady had loads of Pluck and our story does not tell even a part of her adventures.
She was a cat lover but later became our Dobermann Bruce’s best mate. He really did love her company.
She was a lady who loved what she did and was always up to try things out.
Her home and garden were her loves.
She will be sadly missed

So sorry to hear about Irene, Bob. You three were always around when I first joined LCC and I could see the genuine affection you had for Irene as a friend and fellow paddler. I hope she passed peacefully and without pain. Love and condolences to you and Sue.

I heard that Irene had died from John Fay.
I’m so sorry for your loss. May Irene rest in peace.
I know you were great friends for many years and she was a wonderful person. I have so many memories of Irene kayaking and enjoying life with a great sense of humour.
Please keep me informed of funeral arrangements.
Condolences once again.
