2026 03 22 Hilbre
A last-minute decision paid off with a cracking coastal paddle from West Kirby Sailing Club out to Hilbre Island.
Despite a cloudy start, light winds made for ideal paddling conditions. As the session went on, the skies cleared to blue, giving us some welcome sunshine and excellent visibility across the Dee Estuary. The large equinoctial tide (High Water Liverpool 1:07 pm, 9.7m) provided plenty of depth and time, making the crossing out to Hilbre and the return journey straightforward and enjoyable.
The group – Ian, Catriona and Keith – made the most of the favourable conditions, enjoying a relaxed but rewarding paddle. Out on the island, we also bumped into Olwen, who was visiting with Macclesfield Canoe Club, adding to the sociable feel of the day.

A lot more up and down movement than yesterday’s flat calm trip.
It was very chilly in the docks today so I suspect not as hot and sunny over at Hilbre either but photos look ace!
