After weeks of pool practice and dock sessions rescuing each other, emptying various types of boats, towing and of course safety, our journey to completing the Paddlesport Instructor Course was held at the beautiful scenic waters of Llyn Paddarn. 

Our course began in a warm classroom with a coffee whilst we chatted with Ste, who runs Thomas Outdoors. He put our minds at ease and made learning fun, positive and professional.

What a weekend of discovery and fun we had. We discovered that the Macarana makes an excellent warm-up ahead of getting on the water, so watch out, you lot get those dance moves learnt. We also discovered that plastic ducks bring out fierce competitiveness and that you don’t have to be physically strong to achieve what seems beyond achievement, while all the while bringing fun and being fun is what made the tasks and assessments seem second nature and while not necessarily easy, but definitely a goal we could reach.

The Paddle UK Instructor Award challenges you to think beyond your paddle skills, engages you to self-reflect whilst being mindful to be kind to yourself and take the next step. Highly recommended to anyone who wants to become an instructor, a team player and most of all to gain extra skills, have more fun and help others to do that safely.
