Chester Weir 9th July

Chester Weir 9th July – Really low flows, but the water was so warm

Sandy Lane car park was extremely busy again with the hot weather. Lots of people on SUPs, canoes and the odd kayak. We paddled down to the weir, and a few friendly faces were there from Deva CC. We had to work really hard to paddle over the lip and onto the first step. John B brought along his “purple banana thingy – aka Dagger OC1”

We played on the steps, trying to loop, roll and generally get as wet as possible. It was evening tides, so the weak Dee bore found its way and covered the bottom step while we were on the weir. Unfortunately, it stopped there as only midday higher Spring tides totally cover the weir and give and escallator ride back to the top. All six of us went upside down, rolled to self-rescue. Chester is a great place to try out those skills.
