Monday night open canoe paddle 13th July 2026 by Sue L

Another wonderful night to be on the water.  After a skills session in Coburg Dock, we followed Mike along the wall in Queens Dock in the hope it would give us a little shelter from the wind, with David and Marco checking from the rear.

Despite the strong winds and really good gusts, the paddlers held their nerve and deployed terrific skills in negotiating opens down to Brunswick Dock.  Jacob showed that, while it was only his second time in an open, he’d quickly developed great confidence in going solo, and we were mightily impressed.

As we practised paddling in the winds, a shot of blue and turquoise flew along the end wall, and a cry from Sue rang out, “A kingfisher!”  New paddler Paris had been impressively learning the j-stroke, but the sight of a kingfisher stole the limelight.  Sorry Paris.

Thanks for snacks, Colin, but the kingfisher still wins.
