Progression to Open Canoes, Monday 27th July ‘26 by Sue Lowndes

The winds and gusts had dropped from the previous day, so feeling brave, we all went solo on the open canoes.  A very impressive move on Paris’s part, being only his second time in an open.  We swiftly got down to the end of Coburg and exercised our forward paddling and figure of 8 skills before heading into the wind and towards Albert.

While it was a dull evening, it seemed pretty busy around the bars and restaurants of Albert and a perfect audience to witness Colin and Adya representing LCC in true style.  Apologies for the hysterical laughter in the video, but it was just so very, very funny!  Paris was so impressed he had a go himself at gunnel bobbing.  We’re racing next week!

After entertaining everyone at Albert Dock, we paddled up to ‘Seal Launch’ where I had another go at capsizing the canoe and swim to shore with it.  It’s definitely getting better, taking a full minute off last week’s effort.

Why not join us on Monday nights for skills and finding our inner child?
