Boat Maintenance Day at the compound
Boat Maintenance Day at the compound
Many thanks to all the paddlers who offered to help down at the compound. Dominic had been doing the odd day each month, and many of the boats were already checked. Special thanks to Kevin, Ian, Aide, Dominic, Kai, Andrew B, Callum, Norman and Jacki and to others who popped down to help.

We managed to go through, audit + check all the boats and equipment during the morning. Many repairs to backrests, foot pegs, buoyancy, etc., were carried out during the session.
Please note that all the paddles sit better on the rack if similar types are put together. In general, boats should be returned to the same layer/position on the rack, or else they will not all fit, and someone at the end of the session has to re-order them, which is very time-consuming. The longer touring kayaks now all go on the middle row with SOT and larger GP kayaks below. This makes it far easier to lift boats on and off. In general, one of each set of 3 kayaks goes in stern first, as this tends to be narrower and less damage is done when taking boats on and off the racks.
Skegs never have to be used on the docks, as touring boats have skegs built into their keel line. Please always keep them in the upright position. Indeed, many are now taped up or have been broken – they will not be replaced or fixed. This is especially important when putting them away, as they are damaged or damage other boats on the racks if left down and jammed.
Any litter, bottles or items cleared from the docks/compound MUST be taken home when you leave. If you find something not working, missing or damaged, please try to fix it yourself or report it via the form on the website.
