Junior Anglesey Weekend June 2024.

What a fabulous weekend of fun & activities! More photos……..

Saturday morning – Four Mile Bridge

After setting up camp on Friday night we set off for Four-mile bridge on Saturday morning. We got on the water above the bridge so that we could paddle downstream through the tunnel. Just before we got to paddle through, we were treated with a fly past of the red arrows. It was superb, although very loud! Even though there were a few of us that were nervous, everyone had a go & it was fabulous.

After a few goes through the tunnel we had a short paddle across the inland sea. It was hard going with the wind on the way out but coming back was really quick. Whilst out, we got to see an Egret that was stood on the bank. It was beautiful.

Next a few of us swam through the tunnel which was a lot of fun. As it was getting close to high tide Keith said we could have a go at jumping off the bridge. Loads of us did it but there were a couple that were too scared. They’ll just have to come back next year & try again!

Looks like it was great fun kayaking at four-mile bridge. It was a great experience. It was fun and jumping off the bridge was so fun, and the kayaking was a great adventure.

Saturday Afternoon Trearddur Bay – Surfing and Paddle

After Four Mile Bridge we drove to Trearddur Bay, sat on the beach and had a picnic in the sun. We got on the sea and surfed for a while. Then we went out on a paddle, over the waves and behind the rocks to a little cove where there were fishing boats. When I got beached, there were a ton of pink jellyfish bobbing around us. We paddled around more rocks and found another hidden bay. When we were on our way back, I kept seeing bubbles in the sea going down, because there were seals under the water. Then we surfed back in and played on the beach for a while. I thought this paddle was very fun because it was nice and sunny and my friends were there. It was also fun because the waves were quite high and bouncy. Once we were dry, some of us went along the prom to The Sea Shanty for ice cream. I can recommend the honeycomb-caramel swirl!

Midnight walk
We went on a midnight walk and it was really fun and exciting. I really enjoyed sitting on the rocks and looking out at the beautiful sea. Also I enjoyed going through the narrow path with all the bushes surrounding you and seeing all the little rabbits.

A poem from the weekend:
The sound of the rustling leaves anchored around my ears
Strolling through an adventurous journey which led to a magnificent site
The glistening sea which bounced a beam of light and climbing up ancient tall rocks which gave us a slight fright!
As we reached the top, ghost stories we told
Having so much fun in the freezing cold
WHAT A NIGHT TO REMEMBER!
better than the 25th of December!!!

Sunday Surf & Paddle

On Sunday 9th June 2024 the Junior club went to Porth Dafarch Beach we all got changed into our paddling gear and put on at the small, sandy bay. The tide was quite high up along the beach and the waves at the beginning were quite manageable for the Junior club we paddled out a little way and then practised surfing them back in. After a while we decided to paddle a little further out to sea, the waves got stronger as we went along and the swells higher and higher. At a certain point we decided to stop and turn back, we all made it back successfully. I enjoyed it more than the day before at Trearddur Bay.

On Sunday we went surfing at Porth Dafarch. I started by doing some surf and then Keith was teaching me to do some tricks. One of them was to do a 180 degree turn on my nose while surfing. It made me feel happy because I could do a new trick.

Surfing at Porth Dafarch

Any trace of fatigue I brought with me from the journey dissipated amid the consistent flow of the waves. The feeling of being propelled across the water by such exhilaratingly tall waves was thrilling as we paddled further from the stone encrusted shore

Surfing during this time seemed to be an arduous process, although it wasn’t particularly helped by myself forgetting to use the stern rudder! What waves I did manage to catch moved, at least from my perspective, at a blistering speed.

One of the most distinct parts of the trip was travelling between two rock formations out on the sea, salt water flung with reckless abandon as waves broke from every conceivable direction.

Sunday Coasteering

After our paddle we went coasteering with Keith as our leader we climbed upon the rocks beside the bay and sometimes we swam from the rocks to small islands sticking from out of the water to then jump off. A large blowhole splashed in my face as we were swimming along, after we had done that, we swam back towards the bay together.

We joined everyone else at Porth Dafarch later on in the morning, just in time for Coasteering.

On Sunday morning we had to pack up the tent, so we joined everyone else at Porth Dafarch later on in the morning, just in time for Coasteering. We went much further round the rocks than we had done before and had a few little swims, kindly helped by kayak support giving a few of us lifts! It was a lot of fun but very cold!

Looking forward to next year already.

The Anglesey weekend was amazing! We went surfing, swimming, normal kayaking and coasteering. On Saturday we went kayaking and swimming in the morning and surfing at the beach. In the evening, we had a barbeque and a midnight walk. On Sunday we went to another beach and then we went coasteering. From Olly

At the Anglesey weekend we did loads of fun activities including: coasteering, kayaking, swimming, bridge jumping and white water! It was loads of fun as we were all with our friends and it was a time to do stuff you never thought you would be doing!

I personally would say that jumping off the bridge into the white water was the most scariest as I am scared of heights and it looked so low down from where we jumped off at but everyone was all so supportive helping me do it and I don’t regret it at all!

The funniest would probably be swimming because the waves would come and we would either jump over the water or dive under the water depending on how big it was! Some were massive and it was amazing jumping under them.

Overall, I think it was an amazing trip and I would definitely go again! From Jess

When we got to the beach we went coasteering and jumped into the sea.

So, I went to Anglesey for the junior kayaking weekend and on the first day we went to Four Mile Bridge where we went for a paddle then at the end I jumped off the bridge a lot of times with Jess and Emma. After that we went for a paddle to Trearddur Bay to see other little bays and there were lots of big waves. We got back to the campsite and had a barbeque and then went on a late-night walk to a beach and we climbed up a rock and told ghost stories, we got back to the campsite at around 23.30pm and went to bed. The next day we went to another bay and did surfing on the waves and then went further out to the massive waves. When we got to the beach we went coasteering and jumped into the sea. My shoes came off so I swam back to the beach in my cherry socks where we then packed up, went back to the campsite to gather our things and then we set off back home. My favourite part was definitely jumping off the bridge as I wasn’t scared this time and did it loads.

Thank you to all the juniors and parents who came along, and to Keith for organising the schedule. Lots of great paddling, new opportunities, friendships and fun! It was a great weekend, Amy!
