Lancaster Canal Paddle – Garstang to Lancaster
We were sent directions and details of the paddle by email from Carl who was coordinating the paddle – his knowledge, fantastic planning and detail made the day a breeze for us all. We all arrived promptly and unloaded the kayaks, canoes and paddleboards. Three cars set off towards Lancaster to shuttle so that we only had to paddle one way. We were padding from Keppling Lane to Aldcliffe road – Click here for the Go Kayaking Guide…….
Once on the water we decided which direction to paddle, the bright sun was behind us so we knew we were heading North. The canal started off going through the urban area of Garstang with numerous motor craft and canal edging gardens. Soon we made it out into the countryside and I was amazed at the beauty of the Lancaster countryside.
We passed a campsite and another small marina before heading through wooded canal banks. The towpath was on our left and we passed numerous walkers dodging the occasional shower. Lunch was opposite a beautiful canal-side house and lawn. There was even a picnic table for us to sit around and chat.
We eventually arrived at the outskirts of Lancaster and to our waiting cars at Aldcliffe Road. The shuttle for the remaining cars did not take too long despite traffic being diverted from the M6 onto the northbound A6.
This was a beautiful trip along a new section of canal for many. The trip is suitable for any paddler using any craft and you should really book a place on the next one – especially as it may go over the Lune Aqueduct! Club boats are available for loan on all club trips……..
Looks like a great trip
