Sunny Day on the Dee – Club Paddle from Horseshoe Weir to TNR

A cheerful group of paddlers took to the River Dee for a club whitewater trip, starting at the iconic Horseshoe Weir and finishing at our familiar stretch at TNR. Despite the low water levels, the sunshine and great company made for an excellent day on the water.

The scenic Llangollen Canal

We began the outing by paddling up the scenic Llangollen Canal to reach the put-in above the weir. The approach offered a peaceful warm-up before tackling the moving water below.

Serpent’s Tail — the well-known grade 3 rapid

While many opted to portage around Serpent’s Tail — the well-known grade 3 rapid — there were still plenty of features along the river to practise whitewater skills, from ferry gliding to breaking in and out of eddies. TNR itself provided a perfect spot to wrap up the day with some final fun on familiar features.

We had 20 people book on and all met at the Pavilion Car Park to paddle. Currently, there is no charge here as they have not yet replaced the parking pay machines 🙂
