Cemlyn Bay to Sandy Bay 17 03 2025 by Catriona

High tide Liverpool 12:20 pm 9.6m, Wind NE 10mph,  SW going stream starts 45mins before HW Liverpool

The mid-day high tides and the amount of daylight make it difficult to plan return trips on Anglesey and avoid paddling against the main flow, so we opted for a one-way trip with a car shuttle.

This took a little while to organise, so we left Cemlyn Bay at 11:45 when the tide was on the turn. This made for a very exciting start to the trip, as we had to cross a short stretch of “huge” unpredictable side on waves as we headed out of the bay. We all stayed upright but we now got quite wet. This was followed by a very manageable, following sea around Carmel Head and excellent views of the Skerries.

Once round the headland, we were in the lee of the wind and we had a relaxed easy paddle with lots of tidal assistance and rocking hopping along the coast as we investigated the cliffs, caves and arches on this scenic part of the coast.
