Junior Club Paddle Sunday 5th July
Junior Club Paddle Sunday 5th July by Sue L
Five young paddlers rocked up for today’s session and, with Marcus’s expert help, were kitted out in boats. They might not have been a large group but they certainly made up for it in enthusiasm, determination and have a go attitude, admirable especially in the 22mph gusts. The quietness of Coberg allowed Hattie and Kenzie to show off some skills and for them all to practice forward and backwards paddling, and of course how to stop quickly. What was the accompanying phrase, Terry? “No more school!”

Evelyn and the group displayed great determination as they paddled under the bridge, against the gusts and onwards to the ‘Seal Launch City’ pontoon. Once there was little need for encouragement, and they were soon out of their boats and jumping in. At this stage, it was apparent that a certain and unnamed leader was suggesting this not to build up water confidence and fun for the young paddlers but for their own fun. And why not?
Leaders were particularly impressed with Polly’s capsize with 3 very clear bangs to the bottom of her boat and then a brilliant heel hook back in following Colin’s great and speedy emptying of water and instructions. Great job, Polly.
With the wind picking up and arms getting tired, our newer paddlers were given tows. Paul had a break from towing Evelyn, who relaxed as Terry guided her along; Polly and Mia learnt how to raft up as Sue towed them… but not for too long!
Great teamwork all round in putting kit and boats away. See you on the water again soon.
