Two paddles today, as usual, for river skills. It was good to see some of the Juniors leading sections of the river and working together as a team. 6 of them were seen carrying a heavy kayak back to the campsite at the end of the day.

One group headed to a local lake in the morning to do some paddleboarding and swimming. Here they found several brightly coloured frogs.

Nic and Noah joined us to paddle the river, but they were not camping with us; they had a B&B locally.

In the afternoon, some very strong winds were generated by local thermals and anabatic winds which blew up the valley. They were so strong that some of us lost items of clothing hanging on a washing line. We even had to borrow a set of ladders to retrieve them from over the high fence.

In the evening we searched for a pair of glasses that were lost to the river. The river had been turned off but still had a little flow, and unfortunately we did not find them. All glasses should be attached while on the water. “To keep regular glasses or goggles securely on your head while swimming, you should use neoprene sports bands, bungee cord straps, or a moulded swim cap.”
