Liverpool Canoe Club Open Day 24th April 2022
The event was Open to All, Members and Non-members, Young and Old. It was great to see so many members there to support the day. Andy Lees from Go Kayaking was there with a selection of demo boats from Pyranha and Red SUP`s. Elle Jackson from Jackson Leisure had a variety of SUP`s and inflatable kayaks. Everyone got to try a variety of different crafts and get on the water.
The come and try it sessions were also popular and many thanks to those volunteers that helped put these on, organise, coach and provide safety cover. Canoe polo was also demonstrated, and people were encouraged to give it a go. The bring and buy sale was a huge success with many items going to new homes.
The long-distance race had lots of entrants who raced around a course in the docks. The top ten places are shown below.
The long-distance race:
1st Andy Rowley – 8 mins 40
2nd Kevin Corcoran – 8 mins 51
3rd Adrian Olaeru – 8 mins 55
4th Steven Alcock
5th Norman Cook
6th Martin Page
7th Poppy Clews
8th Sarah Gille
9th Josh Cook
10th Josie Moss
Several coaching sessions and dock tours took place until 1 pm when we were due to have the rolling competition. This year we set the challenge of the greatest number of full rotations within 20 seconds.
The rolling competition:
1st Oliver Groom
2nd Andy Rowley
2nd Steven Alcock
4th Paul Goetzee
4th Arron Jackson
4th Sarah Gille
We will hold the next open day on the last day of April 2023 but if any new members would like to start with the club, then either book a pool session at our Kingsway pool or book one of the many starter courses run by the club. Once you have the basics and are confident getting on the water you can join in with any suitable dock paddle or even venture a little further afield with a trip on one of the many local rivers or canals.
