Alps White Water Holiday – France 2026 – Monday Day 11 Campsite Slalom Course to St Clement

2026 08 11 Middle Durance

Over the hills and far away, a new day dawned in Telletubby land. Tinky Winky, Dipsy, LaaLaa and Po awoke from their tents ready for a new day of adventures. The plan today was to paddle a familiar river – the upper Durance. This time starting at the campsite slalom course and running the 18km of river down to the St Clements slalom course.

Po was anxious about the campsite slalom, but after some encouragement from her friends she followed Dipsy’s clean line down river. Given this week’s low water levels, the rocks were easy to avoid, and the wave train wasn’t too large.

We curved through the valley, avoiding the submerged rocks in the shallow sections and staying away from overhanging trees. The weather closed in as the paddle continued, and soon we were paddling into headwind and rain (Po thought it almost seemed like classic British sea kayaking weather).

Once we reached the final slalom course everyone enjoyed playing in the waves and eddies. We stopped at the bottom for a quick lunch before ‘again, again’ was heard and Tinky Winky, LaaLaa and Po all set off for another run. They even managed a party wave, with all 3 Teletubbies catching the same small standing wave in unison.

After several runs of the St Clements course, all 4 Teletubbies climbed into the tubby car and, arms aching, set off home to the campsite for some well-earned tubby custard.

Characteristics of the Teletubbies:
Tinky Winky (purple): clumsy kind and gentle.
Dipsy (green): stubborn, independent and stylish.
LaaLaa (yellow): bubbly, cheerful and sweet.
Po (red): energetic, playful and smart.
