Anglesey Camping Weekend #2 by Chris Marsden
Big thanks to Peter Massey for coordinating the trip to Anglesey this weekend.
After a week of lovely weather, we were excited about the weekend trip. The forecast wasn’t good but plenty of club members turned out in anticipation of a good weekend. Friday night was windy and wet, but the forecast looked more promising for Saturday. We spent the evening in the bar having a few drinks and a good chat. It was a great opportunity to socialise together.
Overnight the wind never dropped and was still blowing hard on Saturday. We met in the morning to come up with some ideas about what would be best for the group. The sea kayaking leaders went to have a quick recce of the sea conditions in Trearddur Bay. After only a quick look, the decision was easily made. We would go with plan B, a walk along the cliffs to Rhoscolyn and the White Eagle for lunch. This was Steve’s plan A as he and Elle didn’t even bother bringing boats.
We had a lovely walk along the coastal path to Rhoscolyn Bay, where we stopped for lunch at the White Eagle pub. After lunch, we headed back to the Campsite site where we got together for an evening BBQ. Some members of the group decided it would be best to head home that evening as the weather forecast was looking even worse than before. The remaining members decided or would best to head for a few drinks at the bar, I wasn’t going to argue.
We had a nice evening, but it was the early hours by the time we got to bed. Everyone left before lunchtime to head home or visit other attractions on the way home.
Overall, it was a great weekend with opportunities to meet new friends and see friends we hadn’t seen for a while.
Liverpool Canoe Club is not all about boating.
