Hilbre Island on a 8.8m tide – Saturday 18th January

The forecast was looking good and as we were just coming off springs, so a local paddle out and around Hilbre looked on the cards. A last-minute email to get it on the calendar and we had a small but perfectly formed team turn up at West Kirby Slip.

The tide hit the Tarmac about an hour and 40 minutes before high tide. We made good time out around the Little Eye, past Middle Eye and the clouds threatened to allow the sun through but it never hung around long enough to warm us above the three-degree air temperature. It was flat calm at the end and the light SE`ly had sped us along the way. It would be a little more difficult on the return leg.
