Sea Kayaking Safari – Brittany – Day 7

2026 08 22 La Teignouse Lighthouse

Putting in at Plage du Fort Neuf, we immediately contended with steep seas washing over the slipway and some initial congestion from launching RIBs nearby. Pressing on, we paddled to Pointe du Conguel with ease, smoothly passing a couple of sit-on-tops and neatly navigating around the lines of local fishermen stationed along the rocky point.

We set our sights on the main open-water challenge: making the crossing to Phare de la Teignouse.

Crossing the short strait to Iniz en Toull Bras, we set our sights on the main open-water challenge: making the crossing to Phare de la Teignouse. A running tide paired with a stiff northerly breeze produced lumpy conditions and a sizeable swell, though we pushed forward knowing the winds were due to drop around midday. Reaching the lighthouse, landing was out of the question—as expected—so we rounded the rocky islets and light structure to grab a brief, much-needed rest in its lee before retracing our route back across to Iniz en Toull Bras for a well-earned elevenses on the sandy, sheltered beach right around midday.

we headed out toward the isolated rocks we had so thoroughly enjoyed the previous day. This time, we spiced things up by zig-zagging dynamically between them before retracing our path.

Following a leisurely lunch, we headed out toward the isolated rocks we had so thoroughly enjoyed the previous day. This time, we spiced things up by zig-zagging dynamically between them before retracing our path. After finally landing and packing away all our kit, Keith, Ruth, and Mike took the short walk past the sailing school (École de Voile A.S.N. Quiberon) to unwind at the friendly little Cabane Porigo at the top of Plage du Porigo. It was a brilliant seventh day of paddling and a fantastic final outing before we all began our journeys home.

  1. An absolutely superb paddle in fabulous company.

We finished off with a short drive to the pretty port of Roscoff. There we marveled at the local fete before sampling delights of one of the many restaurants.

Martin would have died at the sight of all the creepiest (shops and in the fete)

Now in the queue for our overnight cruise to Plymouth.
